Man is a social animal, anyone incapable of sharing a common life is either below or beyond humanity, either a beast or a god, explained the Greek philosopher, Aristotle. To achieve more with our lives, we'll always need people around us, and hence, it is imperative we value those in our cycles. Though, most of the time we'll make it an habit to judge other people from the perspective of our culture. What we fail to realise is that every individual has a social reality, social experiences peculiar to them, though not as an entity (except in the case of genetic and biological explanations), but as a member of a social group. This implies that, as individuals, we're all part of a wider social organization, and we act out the codes we've learnt over time through the process of socialization.
Thus, understanding people from the perspective of their cultural background, their peculiar cultural elements, will go a long way in building a more healthy relationships and avoid most of the headaches we preoccupy ourselves with in our daily routines like, relationships, marriage, work, school etc. What is considered to be a 'normal' behavior is a relative term, except if the behavior of the other person falls out of the general standard and codes of behavior the society has set. If not, try as much as you can to put yourselves in the 'shoes' of other before you judge or get pissed off with them. Life is more beautiful and fulfilled when we understand the battles the other person is fighting, and try to help them win over it. Sometimes, those helps could be a simple smile, positive compliment, or a simple hug.
Hence, to maximize and achieve more with our lives, at one point or the other, we need to think beyond our needs and put the interest of the other person into consideration. We constantly need to keep in mind that we're part of a larger social whole, without which our existence might not really make much sense.
